About Azucena Vega:
Dancer, Artistic Director, and Choreographer, Azucena Vega, began dance lessons at the age of six in her hometown of Gijon, Spain and her career at fifteen-years-old. Her education ranges in techniques from Spanish classical, flamenco, and classical ballet, to modern and jazz. As an experienced and highly accomplished dancer, choreographer, soloist and teacher, she earned acclaim for her worldwide performances.

In her 45 year dance career, Azucena also boasts performing with well-known talents such as Pilar Lopez, Jose Greco, the Ballet Espaņol de Madrid, Antonio Ruiz Soler, and Charles Mingus just to name a few. She even highlighted the stage with Ed Sullivan and Frank Sinatra.

Founder and Director of Soul & Duende Spanish American Theater in 1991 Madrid, Spain, Azucena prides herself in creating productions convergin world cultures in flamenco, Spanish folklore, modern dance, and Latin American folklore. She believes the arts are a manifestation of life, reflecting the crux of the soul. She and her company interpret flamenco in the cuadro with passion, fervor and professional artistry to contribute in the preservation of the uniqueness of flamenco dance and song.

Course Description:
Flamenco guitar and applied flamenco theory classes are open to all students. No experience necessary! Whether your goal is to become a professional flamenco guitarist or just add in some flamenco licks and sounds to your current style, I can help you reach your musical goals. Lessons are individualized and mainly focus on solo flamenco guitar; however, "cante" (flamenco voice) and "baile" (flamenco dance) accompaniment classes are available. Karen Stelling, a veteran of flamenco and Spanish Dance in the Chicago area for over 30 years is offering fundamental and intermediate levels of flamenco technique and choreography as well as castanet class.

Karen has over thirty years of Spanish Dance and flamenco performing and teaching experience and was the First Dancer of Chicago's Ensemble Espanol for ten years before working as a soloist and member of Los Tres, a flamenco trio. Karen has studied with many masters over the years and enjoys passing this knowledge and inspiration on to her students.

Melody was formerly a principal dancer and soloist with the Los Preferidos Spanish Dance Company, and performs with her colleagues as "Las Compaņeras". Her performing and teaching experience encompasses classical, folkloric and flamenco forms of Spanish Dance. Classes are continuous--students can start at anytime.**

Students have up to three months from day of purchase to use their cards. Class cards can be used toward any class given by Melody. Students may choose to take once a week or combine classes as desired.

Basic level classes are currently offered on Saturday afternoons. Inter/Advance students are welcome to attend weekly or any combination of both levels and/or days.

**Please note that Intermediate/Advanced classes require a minimum of 2 years study or approval of instructor.

New Flamenco Chicago studio is at 2147 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. Flamenco Chicago offers the most comprehensive schedule of flamenco dance classes in Chicago, with 13 weekly classes, encompassing four levels of training in technique and choreography. Most sessions run for six weeks, but students with previous experience in flamenco are encouraged to join mid-session, if they wish. All students have the opportunity to participate in two student showcases each year, held in a beautiful professional theatrical setting. Flamenco Chicago artistic director Rosetta Magdalen teaches all flamenco classes. Her work has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Dance Teacher magazine, and other publications.
